Discipline
I believe that discipline is necessary in order to reassure the students that you are in control. Kids like to test where the boundaries are because they feel safer knowing where they can and cannot go. In the case of a music classroom there will be rules such as not messing around on the piano or any of the technical equipment in the classroom, along with the typical rules about treating each other with respect and being supportive of all in the room. These rules are essential in order to have a structured classroom that is well managed and can function efficiently. The disciplinary action in connection with these rules being broken makes the rules more effective.

Classroom Procedures
When my students first come in I want to immediately get them use to the procedure that they will be using every day when they walk into my class. The students will:
I will be greeting students as they come in and taking attendance as effectively. I will also assign leaders of each section at the beginning of the year so that when it comes to concerts or certain responsibilities I can trust those students to be honest with me and be helpful when need be. Structure will be very key because the time period of a class is so short and there will be a lot of work to get done in that small period of time. To avoid extra chatter while I am working with other groups I will also assign individual projects so that once I get to that group of students they will be completely prepared. This will also be when the section leaders will be put in charge to either help with their sections questions or keep their section on track. Ultimately, if a student has a major issue or question they will come to me. |
